This GPS runs on WinCE 5.0 and navigation programs and maps can be run from the SD card.
I have the following on a 2GB SD card (the largest that the unit will handle) with Australia maps:
[*] Destinator 7 with tts (text to speech - says street names) Finean/PoleNav Igo8 with tts McGuider/Tele Atlas Miomap 3.3 with tts Tevion 2.0 Smart2Go/Kogan Route 66 Navigate 7 TomTom 7 Solataire Rat Splat A speedo and sketch programs Some utilities.
I have also trialled Route 66 Navigate 8 with a time limited map trial for Australia that is the most up to date Australia map being the 3rd quarter 2008.
If there is interest I could post some "How to's" or direct you to a site where I have already posted "How to's"

Thanks for this info, I have been quite interested in this unit as our local Aldi still has quite a number (yeah, still, weeks later).
A question regarding GPS's in general, because I just don't know... is there any ongoing fee for the GPS service itself? Other than purchasing new map data when you want newer maps, is there any further ongoing cost in owning one of these units?
Would you overall recommend this unit?

No there is no further costs. The unit simply receives the free signal from the GPS satellites and calculates your position in 3 dimensions. Latitude, longitude and relative height. These are converted by the mapping program to a vector and presented on the electronic road map that then displays where you are ie what street/road etc.
Usually 8 to 10 satellites are in view, a reasonable accurate fix is obtained that is accurate on the Tevion P130 to several metres.

I have found some information on this at http://www.gpsaustralia.net/forums/showthread.php?t=4515&page=1&pp=15. Is it the same model? I'm always confused as there seem to be so many GPS units, and Aldi never tells you the model number in their catalogue. If so, it would seem you can hack it quite nicely based on that thread (I spent a while reading it a while back) But good luck with the purchase, and looking forward to reading about your experiences!

I have both the P130 and PWM-350.
The first has Route 66 Navigate 7 installed and the second has Route 66 Navigate 8.
R66N8 is much superior and has a really up to date Australia map, Q3 2008.
I have been experimenting with both trying to get them to run GPS programs off a SD card.
I have had great success with the P130 but very limited success to date with the PWM-350.
The other day I accidentally put the SD card that I had been using for the PWM-350 into the P130. The card had a copy of R66N8 on it. To my great surprise R66N8 ran on the P130 with the map unlocked. R66N8 maps will only run on a unique GPS unit. The maps are locked on any other GPS unit and no one has found a way to unlock them.
So now I can run R66N8 on the P130 with the up to date maps.

I'm amazed at how many people have multiple GPS units! Do you get lost a lot? So, this, smaller GPS unit comes preloaded with older maps, but is easier to upgrade via maps on SD card than its bigger brother?

The P130 can be used to run many GPS program from the SD card very easily. In addition you could run games such as chess, star war games, card games (I run solataire) and potentially a notepad, calendar, appointments etc.
The PWM-350 is a different kettle of fish. It is not as easy as the P130 and I need to carry out some experiments to understand how it works and how it can be manipulted.
